Instructor Spotlight: Jaclyn

Jaclyn is one of our newer instructors whose passion for teaching, creative choreography, and barre comes through with every class she leads. Read below to get to know this Studio B Barre Babe!

How did you get introduced to barre?

I got introduced to barre about 5 years ago by a friend that convinced me to come with her to a class. I have been hooked ever since, and you’ll often still see me at the barre with that friend!

Why do you barre so hard?

Barre makes working out so much fun! It is the first and only workout I have found that I have been able to keep up consistently without getting bored. I know how important staying active is, and I see and feel the benefits it has had for me both physically and mentally. And you can’t help but feel amazing after going to a class, not only because of the great workout you just crushed, but also because of the smiling, friendly faces you always see at Studio B.

What keeps you motivated and inspired?

The Studio B community definitely keeps me motivated. The instructors are always encouraging you to do better, and challenging you in the best ways. I also love it when the class participants energize and inspire each other – even just seeing other people working hard makes me want to work harder!

Favourite barre series?

I love a second position series in any variation (plies, fold over, chair). I think it’s because it targets so many muscle groups so well – glutes, inner thighs, outer thighs – and I can always get those muscles shaking and feeling the burn, which is why we all go to barre isn’t it?!

What is the best “side effect” you've noticed from doing barre?

One side effect I have noticed is definitely more toned arms and legs, which I love, but I think the best side effect I’ve noticed is the improved mind body connection I have gained. I feel that I am now able to make workouts more effective by having that conscious connection to my muscles, which I was not as aware of before.

What do you love about being an instructor?

I love being able to create a class and share it with other people who love barre as much as I do. It’s a challenge for my creativity to come up with different series or combinations, and then seeing them put into action is so much fun!

What other exercise(s) or fitness routines do you participate in?

I enjoy going to the gym and doing my own workouts, or going to yoga and spin classes.

What is your occupation?

I am an Occupational Therapist, and I love it! (It’s not just helping people get back to work – ask me about it sometime!)

Favourite guilty pleasure?

Ben and Jerry’s The Tonight Dough ice cream – it’s like the best of all ice creams mixed into one!

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I used to have some musical abilities – I played piano and saxophone through most of my school years. (I think that’s why I enjoy doing workouts to the beat of music so much). I hope to get a keyboard and start playing the piano again soon because it’s been a while!

Favourite quote?

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.– Maya Angelou
