The Benefits of Bouncing

If you're reading this you might be thinking of trying one of our SOAR Bounce Fitness classes but are unsure what SOAR is OR maybe you've already familiarized yourself with our bellicons and want to know more about how rebounding affects your health. Whatever the reason, you've come to the right place because today's post is all about the benefits of bouncing and what a SOAR class entails.

SOAR Bounce Fitness is a fun, 50 minute total body, fat-burning, high-intensity but low-impact workout that blends cardio, strength, endurance and balance all into a single bounce. The elasticity and shock absorption of the bellicon (mini trampoline) bungee system creates a workout that is gentle on the joints while providing a great way to sweat and sculpt your body. Bouncing on a bellicon strengthens the abs, pelvis and hip muscles to support the spinal discs and vertebrae. The moment of weightlessness in each bounce allows the muscles in your back to relax while the strengthening occurs. Other benefits of SOAR:

DECREASES ILLNESS

Rebounding is reported to increase lymph flow by 10 to 30 times when compared to periods of rest. Because bouncing kick-starts the lymphatic system and promotes lymphatic drainage, lymph is at a constant flow throughout the body. This lymph rids the body of toxins, bacteria and waste. As a result of this, bouncing minimizes the number of colds, allergies and sicknesses.

STRENGTHENS THE HEART AND REDUCES STRESS

Bouncing gets your heart and circulatory system firing on all cylinders right from the warm-up. The harder you work, the faster you'll move; that heart-pounding, breathless feeling is a sign of effective cardiovascular training and strengthening of the heart muscles. Bouncing also helps to release endorphins, your body’s natural calming aids. A decrease in stress leads to a decrease in the risk of heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.

LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE

Bouncing increases blood flow to underused muscles and alleviates pressure and strain on overused muscles. The repetitive up and down movement, along with the force of gravity, causes large muscle groups to contract, which leads to a rhythmic compression of every artery and vein in the body. This contraction and compression increases circulation, blood flow and oxygenation of tissues. All of this works together to lower blood pressure.

HELPS WITH WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

SOARing offers a fun and functional way to burn calories and manage weight loss. Studies show that cardiovascular exercises, such as rebounding, raise your metabolic rate for up to 24 hours after you step off your trampoline. This is called excess post-exercise oxygen consumption which means you are still burning calories at a higher pace while you sleep, watch TV, and carry on with your day. The longer and more rigorous your exercise is, the greater the after-burn will be.

STRENGTHENS THE PELVIC FLOOR

A common idea about bouncing is that it may not be the prime exercise of choice if you have a weak pelvic floor, however the bellicon has been proven to be incredibly helpful in strengthening the pelvic floor and the core muscles in general. The deep, smooth bounce of the bellicon engages every muscle, including the pelvic floor. Over time, with the help of the repetitive bounce, these muscles will strengthen. Also, to ease your apprehension, unlike typical trampolining, our SOAR classes focus on a small, controlled bounce, rather than a big bounce that may test the strength of the pelvic floor.
