Today we're inducting Rae-Lee to the Studio B Hall of Fame! Rae-Lee has completed over 250 barre and SOAR classes in less than a year. She is such a pleasure to have in class and we love her determination to working hard. Find out more about Rae-Lee and why she loves to pulse AND bounce below!
How did you get introduced to Studio B?
My good friend Nykala, a SOAR instructor at Studio B, had been trying to convince me for over a year to join her at the studio. When she started teaching I finally decided to give it a whirl. I couldn’t get enough of the dance-inspired SOAR routines and then additionally the toning and strength generated from barre. I was able to incorporate the HIIT I had been used to with Pilates and ballet moves that I had always found to provide incredible results. It was a fun way to work out and to change up my routine.
Why do you barre so hard? What makes you want to SOAR?
I have always loved fitness and the adrenaline generated from a hard workout. I love how barre has made me feel and the way it has enabled me to connect with my body and mind. I also love the differences in the instructor’s classes and the creativity they bring to each movement. I want to SOAR because I crave the feeling after a good workout when you have left everything out on the tramp.
How has barre and SOAR impacted you?
Although barre and SOAR are both incredible workouts the biggest impact has been the people that push you to work harder at Studio B. I always worked out at home completing programs such as Insanity, Turbo Fire and PiYo but there is something to be said about being in a room with other people working towards the same goal and pushing you to work harder.
What keeps you motivated and coming back to Studio B?
The consistently changing classes and moves are what keep me coming back to Studio B. I am constantly growing and pushing my body and mind to new limits. I am never bored and that keeps me coming back for more.
Favourite part about SOAR?
My favorite part about SOAR are the sprints and constantly pushing your body to give more.
Favourite barre exercise or series?
Sideline and Chair.
Other than barre and SOAR, what other types of exercising or activities do you do?
My husband and I love to hike so you will find us in the mountains reaching a new summit on the weekends. This is definitely my most loved exercise but I also dance (most recently on a salsa team which provided very unique challenges), attend Vinyasa Yoga classes and spin classes.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
Most people know that I am an audit manager as a Chartered Professional Accountant at RSM Canada but not everyone knows that I focus on NPO’s and compliance requirements. Additionally, I flew to New Orleans to be in a commercial for RSM earlier this year.
Favourite way to treat yourself?
Joel Gott Zinfandel – if you are a red wine drinker you must treat yourself to this.
Favourite movie and book of all time?
Movie – How to Lose a Guy in 10 days (still laughing out loud every time.)
Book – The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
Favourite place to eat in Edmonton?
Bodega - Their bruschetta is the best in the city and in addition they have a great red wine selection.
Favourite local spot?
Hawrelak Park – for sentimental reasons I just have to pick this spot. 11 years ago this is where my now husband asked me to be his girlfriend. We flew a kite straight into a tree and spent most of the time getting it down but definitely my favorite local spot.
What is your favourite quote?
