Instructor Spotlight: Katie

Katie has been teaching SOAR since October of last year and if you've been to one of her challenging classes you can appreciate her high energy and spunk! Get to know her more below!

How did you get introduced to SOAR?

I was already coming to barre at the studio and I signed up for SOAR on a whim on Mindbody without really even knowing what the class was. I knew I was looking for a cardio challenge. Once I tried it, I was hooked.

Why do you SOAR?

I love the combination of strength training and cardio, the music, the choreography and most of all, the joy of moving my body through space.

What keeps you motivated and inspired?

I love seeing the creative and clever things other instructors do in their classes! Watching how good they all are makes me want to keep getting better.

Favourite part of class?

Cool down : ).

What is the best “side effect” you’ve noticed from SOARing?

I sleep so well after a SOAR class! And it’s definitely increased my confidence in my fitness level and my abilities, overall.

What do you love about being a SOAR instructor?

The music, hands down! I LOVE crafting a playlist and using different artists and genres.

What other exercise(s) and/or fitness routines do you participate in?

Barre and SOAR classes keep me pretty busy, but I really enjoy getting out for a walk with my husband and my pup! In the summer, I like to go kayaking and in the winter, I love to snowshoe.

What is your occupation?

Public servant.

What is your favourite guilty pleasure?

Social media. A second (or third) glass of wine. Refined sugar.

Favourite book?

I mostly read non-fiction and one of the absolute best in that genre I ever read was “Pit Bull: The Battle over an American Icon “by Brownwen Dickey.

Favourite movie?

That’s such a tough one. I love a good vintage comedy - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, What’s Up Doc?, Christmas Vacation; The Great Race. If we’re talking musicals, probably Moulin Rouge.

Favourite place you’ve traveled to?

Hawaii!

Favourite quote?

"We’re all smart, distinguish yourself by being kind."

Top 3 favourite places in or near Edmonton?

The River Valley, Elk Island National Park and the Legislature Grounds.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I’m a proud mama to a rescue pup!
